Tiny Cinema 5

The pedagogue in me offers major and definitive statement of filmic praxis. We intend to move on all fronts - the Gesamtkunstwerk is the building that must be built.

Diagetic vs non-diagetic - Eisenstein's horror of the merely anecdotal; the re/de/composition of the image/sound gestalt. Filmic space as privileged site. We are non-homogenous. We prefer to move vertically.

Montage is what films are. Films are what montage is. Is montage what films are? Are films what montage is?

No, really.

They kept telling the crowd not to use sparklers at Blackheath.

Nobody took any notice.

Our daughter watched about 3 minutes of the display and then wanted to go home.

When you move beyond the anecdotal, you do, certainly enter that privileged site Like the unconscious, the image becomes language. The every day becomes the Punctum, yes. Something that is 'market place' becomes our own. Just like the burlesque space. Mingling in Shakespeare's crowd. Bumping into slow moving sparklers. Crispy sounds made of light. Blur those boundaries. A tiny cradle of miniature hand. That's right. Yes. If you look closely you see a smile, but only sometimes. Delight of childhood juxtaposed with danger. Montage of dark and light.

The anecdotal as dead end - a film praxis should, of necessity, move beyond. Punctum, an enormous (hopefully productive)tension between the image and montage. Montage as basic film unit ... the film cell as Eisenstein would have it. Kino fist.
